About this deal

I should imagine the only significant movement in the bush is in the roll axis when inertial forces on the mass of the silencer, which is outboard of the mount, cause the whole exhaust system to flex in torsion. PS: I was told off at my initial inspection because the steering rack bolts were upside down and failed dangerous.

The imperial size may have been true at one point but many motor factors now supply these with a metric thread and nuts to suit (certainly Halfords does). This isn't helped by speed bumps frequently hitting the end of the bolt out of the bobbin and twisting round the exhaust hanger. At the engine end, there's a squiggly section of pipe to take it round the gear linkage box thing, but instead of running along the exhaust channel in the chassis, it kind of hangs underneath it, which is no good. As suggested by 7 Wonders an Aerolock nut or even two nuts locked against each other may be an alternative solution. The idea being to replace the rubber bobbin with a set of rubber bushes above, below and between with a solid M8 8.If so, where did you get the rubber seal that's sandwiched between the arch and the body, and did it have to go on at the same time as the arch? It seems to have pretty much the same stiffness and range of movement as the original bobbin when pushing and pulling the system around. I'm not worried about the lack of centre support - with the cat fitted I've actually stood in it the centre (and I'm quite large! Also, having the header or downpipe secured to the differential; having the subframe remounted with solid items on anything newer than MK III cars, and having the engine securely mounted are crucial to mini exhaust longevity.

I think it would be better without the metal washers either side of the chassis bracket and exhaust bracket - I think it would give a little more flex and transmit less noise.A belted hanger for a Ford 3/4 ton pickup truck was cut to length and used at the front of the rear subframe.
