About this deal

I do wish we would have gotten more Diomedes in this second series though, because the political maneuvering he pulls off in this book is just on another level.

From the Institute we go to civil war, from civil war we go to a full scale rebellion: making the stakes and scope of the story bigger and scarier every step of the way is one of the elements I like most about the series.I wonder where Red God will land in this ranking, knowing Pierce Brown it could become the best book in the whole series if he perfects his craft in writing a multi point of view story. Darrow and Lysander have strong showings, as you'd expect, no matter how you feel about Lysander (I'm talking about a particular reddit board, iykyk haha! All of the antagonists in this book are terrifying/hateable in different ways, while still having deep and interesting motivations. Darrow gets the bulk of the page time outside of one stretch in part II where he’s gone for almost 100 pages.

after watching the red rising loose it's original magic after the first 3 books, I was expecting to be disappointed tbh. It is a book about war, loss, and hope, but most of all, it is a book about friendship and how the bonds we make with those we love are stronger than duty, blood, or chains.

These scenes are so relatable because it makes these giants of war and destruction feel so utterly human. However, the one criticism I have for Light Bringer is that there was a major plot thread that wove itself throughout Iron Gold and Dark Age that felt like it was almost dropped. Light Bringer contains some of the most emotional scenes in the series so far, and believe me, it means a great deal. The individual “big moments” are all amazing, but there are a lot of instances of different characters just going to different places because they need to be there for the plot, not necessarily because it feels like the most logical place for them to go.

Special thanks to my Patrons on Patreon for giving me extra support towards my passion for reading and reviewing! Combined with its unpredictability, Red Rising is truly up there is the Olympus of best sci-fi (or sci-fantasy) ever written. Light Bringer has its grim moments, but it is not the despair filled, no getting off train ride on the way to hell that Dark Age was. Overall quality of the recording is poor and seems to have lots of noise, which appears to get better in later chapters.

By bringing Light Bringer into existence, Brown has everlastingly carved his name into the archives of science fiction history as one of the greatest sci-fi authors of all time. Apart from Red Rising (book 1) back in 2018, Light Bringer is the only book in the Red Rising Saga to get only 3 stars from me. It was like a vortex of vivid wind had opened its invitation for readers to fly together with the howling lunatics following godkillers in a hunt. As for the actual content of the book, it was beautifully written, consistent with his previous works but with alot more sentimentality, warmth and light than the previous books which i was really greatful for. One other minor complaint I have is that the plotting in this book is a little bit weaker than the last book.

I just hope this isn’t a sign of the series going the way of Game of Thrones where they thought their audience was just built in and wouldn’t leave no matter what they throughout. My admiration and passion for this series has pushed me to willingly read the series from the beginning again—despite how busy I am—in preparation for the arrival of Light Bringer, the sixth and penultimate volume in the series. It is mentioned briefly here and there both to update us on what the current situation is and to talk about the ramifications it had on the characters that were involved. In Iron Gold and Dark Age, Darrow is mostly separated from the main characters from the first trilogy. When you’re in a massive space battle, the last thing you want is to jump to another location for a territory dispute.
