About this deal

Lore, meaning the passing of a skill or tradition through word of mouth is the name given to this extremely tasty Islay whisky. This bottle of Laphroaig 10 Year Old 1990s (Damaged Tube) is an official bottling which was produced in the Islay region of Scotland. It’s aged for ten years, and distilled following the traditions laid down over the last 200 years by a succession of passionate and skilled master distillers. Those enjoying the 10 Year Old will first notice the bold, smoky taste, followed by a hint of seaweed and a surprising sweetness.

Palate: The Original Cask Strength is sweet and spicy with notes of vanilla, toffee and sea salt along with hints of cinnamon and pepper. The rich flavour of this Laphroaig Scotch makes it a staple choice, ideal for novices and connoisseurs alike. Palate Seaweed-led, with a hint of vanilla ice cream and more than a whiff of notes from the first aid box (TCP, plasters etc). One of whom was Ian Hunter, who laid down the process for Laphroaig 10 more than 75 years ago: and these methods are still followed today. Laphroaig 10 gets its distinctive taste from the natural features of Islay, the remote and rugged island off the West Coast of Scotland where the whisky is made.Very different to the sweeter malts so be aware and don't knock it back unless you like a strong hit. Following this, the grain is dried over the same smouldering embers before being laid out on our malt floor, overlooking the sea. It took the crown from Lagavulin 16 over two years ago and every so often I do a taste test between Lag 16, Arbeg 10 and Lap 10 and each time I prefer the Lap. Laphroaig® adheres to the SWA Code of Practice for the Responsible Marketing and Promotion of Scotch Whisky © 2023 Laphroaig. I believe this to be aged in Bourbon (although Laphroaig do make sherried 10 year old releases) - it has lovely warm, sweet, vanilla and caramel undertones.

Laphroaig whiskies are known for their bold and intense flavors, characterized by the pungent aroma of peat smoke, medicinal notes, and a hint of maritime saltiness. The distillery's fanatical following of "Friends of Laphroaig" and its annual Cairdeas releases showcase the strong bond between the distillery and its dedicated enthusiasts. A duty-free stamp on this bottle is dated as 20/07/1992, we therefore assume that it was bottled between 1990-1992. The use of heavily peated malt, along with traditional floor malting techniques, infuses the spirit with the unmistakable aroma of smoldering peat fires. On the nose there are clouds of smoke with an iodine infused sea spray topped with a sprig of seaweed.Whether sipped neat or enjoyed over ice, Laphroaig 10 will captivate you with its quintessential Islay allure. They take several casks of normal ex Bourbon matured Laphroaig, that has been maturing for between 5 and 11 years, and vat them together before pouring them into Quarter casks (125 litres).
