It's time to dive into the Duat underworld, ride into the sky on the back of the heavenly cow, and discover the secrets of the pharaoh's tombs. The pre-loved books are carefully cleaned and maintained offering a wide variety of general and specialist titles from children's to adults. The illustrations were lovely and I actually discovered myths – not directly involving deities – that I'd never come across before when reading about Egyptian or world mythology, so that was really cool!

In blending fact with fiction this book gives us the opportunity to explore ancient creatures of monstrous design, magical spells and a history of warring gods! A beautifully illustrated collection of more than 30 ancient Egyptian myths retold for childrenDelve into a world of strange creatures, magical powers, and warring gods in this thrilling compendium of ancient Egyptian stories. I thought this was incredibly well-done and I quickly discovered how little I knew about Egyptian mythology. I particularly enjoyed the pages focusing on each individual god and goddess and the illustrations just bring it all to life. This book weaves together gorgeous illustrations with not just the stories of the myths, but also a lot of history/culture of ancient Egypt. Explore the stories of mythical figures like Thor, the god of thunder who disguised himself as a bride to seek revenge and retrieve his powerful hammer, Mjölnir, and how Sif, the goddess of fertility had her long golden hair cut off by Loki, the trickster god. Again, this is a book aimed at children but even as a 30 year old I was sucked in by the information and tales presented.

It might be aimed at children primarily but I’ve learned loads by reading it through, so really it’s great for anyone who’s interested in the mythology. And what a wonderful job Jean Menzies and Katie Ponder have done to bring them and their stories to life in this striking compendium of Egyptian myths. With over 20 exciting tales alongside fascinating historical information, this is a must-have introduction for young readers interested in one of the world’s great early civilizations.

Perfect for children aged 7 to 9, this collection contains more than 30 enthralling new retellings of favourite Greek myths as well as some you might not have heard before. Without doubt it could hold its own on any coffee table, as much as a classroom or bedroom bookshelf. In honor of Black History Month in February, we are highlighting essential fiction and nonfiction to be shared and discussed by students and teachers alike.
