About this deal

I’d have loved more commandant page time– she must have some conflicting thoughts herself especially around Elias. I've learned of hope, I've learned not to turn away from it, not to scoff at it and dismiss it with a wave of the hand.

I have to say, I did know Helene’s sister was going to be killed, especially after the beautiful moment that she had with Helene, but I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly. She was also my favorite character, and I love how she was so strong, so fierce, and so determined to save her people.

Because of liking Helene far more than the other two, I was quite nervous about getting to the ending. It continually kept me intriguing and the way it kept pushing the characters to new levels all the time was really engaging to read about.

It is unfair that someone as beautiful, as noble, as worthy of love and happiness and a good life had to endure one of such pain and sadness and loss. It did go to dark places and the death of children is always very harrowing (I can’t imagine the emotions you must experience as a mother). So this review is also going to be a huge rant, I will just try to frame it in more coherent sentences. His past was heart-breaking, and it highlighted what could potentially make a villain, but also showcased that he isn’t right in his actions because of it. It has been strongly suggested that he is gay throughout the books, but I don’t know, nothing was really done? But in the darkness the characters and story found small slivers of light to bask in, until they were finally able to lift the shroud of darkness cast over The Empire and reveal the gleaming star that is A Sky Beyond the Storm. It has been an amazing journey but at the same time it broke my heart and I'm sad about some people that we lost in the books.

I need to say that the whole idea of the Jin was very new and I’ve never seen anything like that in YA before. In all honestly I think the finale was my favourite of the series which I really wasn’t expecting having seen a few negative responses to it.
